The row erupted over a dialogue in a skit performed by the students during the freshers’ party on February 1. Varsity’s CSO Sukhbir Singh reportedly objected to the name of a character “Sukhi” in the skit and misbehaved with a student who delivered the dialogue. Later, the students demanded an apology from the CSO for misbehaving with the students. When he refused, the students started a dharna outside the vice-chancellor’s office.
The students intensified their protest on Sunday after four protesters were booked under section 323 of the IPC and section 3 of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on the complaint of a security guard. In return, one of the students also lodged a complaint with the Hisar SP, alleging that the security guard had lodged a false case against the students.
The students have written to the Haryana governor and other authorities accusing the CSO of misbehaving and implicating them in a ‘false case’.
