Haryana Roadways bus snuffs out 38-year-old cyclist’s life in Mohali

A speeding Haryana Roadways bus claimed the life of a 38-year-old cyclist near Lehli village T-point in Lalru, Mohali, on Saturday evening.

The victim, Parveen Kumar, lived in Jalapur village, Lalru, and worked for a private company.

The bus driver, Vinod Kumar, a resident of Karnal, Haryana, was arrested from the spot.

Investigating officer Gurpal Singh said the victim’s nephew Ranjit Kumar told the police that his maternal uncle had gone to the market for Holi shopping. As he passed by Lehli village around 5.30 pm, a Haryana Roadways bus hit him, leaving him seriously injured. His uncle was later declared brought dead at the Dera Bassi civil hospital.

The bus driver was booked under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code. The body was handed over to the family after autopsy.
