Land fraud in ludhiana: VB arrests imposter, 7 others on run

Investigating the land fraud case involving sub-registrar (west), the vigilance bureau (VB) arrested the imposter, who impersonated as NRI Deep Singh, owner of the land, and transferred the ownership of the land to the buyer Deepak Goel.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP, Vigilance Bureau) Jagatpreet Singh stated that the accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, of Partap Singh Wala of Hambran Road, who is currently living in Village Tharike. The accused told the VB that a realtor Raghbir Singh had offered him 60,000 for the task.

Earlier, the police had arrested Gurcharan Singh Marwaha, an advocate, who had signed as witness and had identified an imposter as Deep Singh, owner of the land, and a realtor Gurjot Singh. A total of three accused have been arrested so far in the case, while seven others, including sub-registrar Jagsir Singh Saran are yet to be arrested.

The VB on February 27 had registered a case against nine accused, including a sub-registrar, for fraudulently executing the sale deed of a 14-Kanal land in Ludhiana using forged documents. The land, belonging to an NRI Deep Singh, residing in the USA, was illegally sold at a price far below its market value.

The VB had booked sub-registrar Jagsir Saran, buyer Deepak Goel, namberdar Baghel Singh, who identified the imposter, registry clerk Krishan Gopal, advocate Gurcharan Singh, Amit Gaur, a computer operator, and property dealer Raghbir Singh. An FIR was registered under relevant sections of BNS at the Economic Offences Wing of VB.
