Singh joined Congress on January 29 after leaving Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He was booked on February 7 for allegedly duping a Phullanwal village resident of 14 lakh on the pretext of securing a Canadian Visa for his younger son. The complaint was filed against him on January 30, a day after he changed his allegiance to Congress.

According to Singh, the police were continuously conducting raids for his arrest. The police raided his house the night before the elections for the president of the municipal council. Fearing his arrest, he did not participate in the election process on February 19.

In the bail plea, Amandeep Singh stated that he was falsely implicated in the case. Counsel for the petitioner submitted that there is a delay of 12 years from the date when the cause of action took place at the first instance. It is also asserted by him that the petitioner has returned a sum of 2.30 lakh instalments within a period ranging from July 4, 2018 to June 14, 2021.

The court while granting the bail mentioned that the court do not find any requirement for the custodial interrogation of the petitioner, particularly considering the facts that there is delay of about 12 years in lodging the FIR from the date of cause of action.
