Ludhiana: Doctor’s Insta account hacked, FIR lodged after obscene content surfaces online

The complainant alleged that the accused gained unauthorised access to her Instagram account and uploaded objectionable

The Focal Point police have registered a case against an unidentified person for hacking the Instagram account of a city-based doctor and posting obscene and sexually explicit content from her profile for allegedly damaging her reputation.

The complainant alleged that the accused gained unauthorised access to her Instagram account and uploaded objectionable content without her knowledge.

Following an inquiry into the complaint lodged on July 6, the police registered an FIR under Section 78(2) (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67A (publishing or transmitting sexually explicit material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act.

Investigating officer inspector Kulbir Singh said the cyber crime unit had been roped in to trace the person behind the alleged hacking.

“We are working to identify the accused and ascertain how the Instagram account was compromised. Further action will be taken based on the investigation,” the investigating officer said.
