Ludhiana: Two killed in road mishaps on Samrala Chowk, Pakhowal road

Two people lost their lives in separate road mishaps in the city late on Monday evening.

In the first incident, a 25-year-old man died after a speeding truck mowed him down near Samrala Chowk on Monday night.

The victim has been identified as Gurjant Singh, 25, of Chandralok Colony of Rahon road. He worked at a garment shop in Akalgarh market.

Sub-inspector Kuldeep Singh, station house officer (SHO) at the Division number 3, said Gurjant was returning home after finishing the day’s work. When he reached the Samrala Chowk, the speeding truck hit him from behind. He fell to the road and the truck ran him over

The onlookers raised an alarm, forcing the truck driver to stop. He was nabbed and handed over to the police.

The SHO added that a case under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the truck driver. The victim was preparing to go abroad on a study visa.

In the second incident, a 26-year-old man died after his bike crashed into a construction machine at Pakhowal road in Dango village. The man was headed to the market at the time of the incident.

The victim has been identified as Mandeep Singh of Dango village.

According to the family members, Mandeep Singh used to work at a shop that deals in glass sheets for doors and windows.

On Monday evening he returned home and headed to the market to run an errand on his bike. He failed to notice the construction machine and crashed his vehicle into it. He suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Mandeep Singh is survived by his parents and an elder sister.
