The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has awarded ₹16.71 lakh compensation to the family of a 2019 road mishap victim.
Taking into account the age and income of the victim, who ran a dairy farm, the court observed that the family was entitled to ₹16.71 lakh, of which his sons will receive ₹1 lakh each, and his mother received ₹3 lakh and his wife will receive ₹11.71 lakh. (iStock Photo)
The victim, Surjeet Singh, 49, of Mohali, was crushed by a speeding crane while he was waiting for his son near the Sale Tax Barrier, 8:45 am on September 10. Singh was rushed to the Banur civil hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The crane, which had a temporary number, was being driven by Baljit Singh of Jokuwal village of Hoshiarpur. It was as owned by one Amar Nath of Banur and was insured by ICICI Lombard.
The prosecution examined five witnesses including the victim’s son, who was an eyewitness. The court observed that all three respondents were liable to answer the claim under reference jointly and severally. Taking into account the age and income of the victim, who ran a dairy farm, the court observed that the family was entitled to ₹16.71 lakh, of which his sons will receive ₹1 lakh each, and his mother received ₹3 lakh and his wife will receive ₹11.71 lakh.
