Mohali: Delivery man, friend dead as speeding car rams bike
Victims were heading from Kurali to Bhagomajra Colony in Kharar to meet an ailing relative when the mishap occurred; car occupants accused of being in intoxicated state, taken into custody
A late-night visit to meet an ailing relative turned fatal for two young friends after a speeding car allegedly driven by an intoxicated man rammed into their motorcycle from behind on the Kurali-Kharar road near Sahaura village in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Kurali-based Jasdeep Singh, 20, a BA student and part-time delivery man with an e-commerce firm, and his friend Amanpreet Singh of Mianpur village in Ropar district.
According to the FIR registered at Kharar Sadar police station, Jasdeep’s father Charanjeet Singh, a carpenter, left on his bike around midnight to meet his sick uncle in Bhagomajra Colony, Kharar. Since it was late, his youngest son Jasdeep accompanied him along with his friend Amanpreet on his newly purchased bike.
Around 1.15 am, near an HP petrol pump on the Kurali-Kharar road, a speeding white Swift car allegedly rammed into the motorcycle from behind, dragging the two-wheeler nearly 10 metres.
Both youths suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. The complainant alleged that the occupants of the car, identified as Nitish Bhardwaj of Karnal and his companion Ashwani Kumar, stepped out of the vehicle in an intoxicated condition and spoke in a slurred manner.
Jasdeep, the youngest son of the family, balanced college studies with delivery work to support household expenses. The victims’ co-workers, Mehtab Khan and Ranjot Singh, rushed to the accident spot and, with the help of local residents, shifted the bodies to a hospital where doctors declared the victims brought dead.
Police officials have registered a case under Sections 281 (rash driving), 106 (causing death by negligence) and 324(4) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused have been taken into custody.
