Mohali: Tragedy averted after mobile tower catches fire in Nayagaon

A tragedy was averted on Thursday when a mobile tower situated in the residential area of Nayagaon, Mohali, went up in flames; no loss of life was reported

A major tragedy was averted on Thursday evening when a mobile tower situated in the residential area of Nayagaon went up in flames. No loss of life was reported but the fire spread panic among the residents of the area.

Also, due to the congested road, the fire tender faced a lot of difficulties in reaching the spot, the residents said.

Two fire tenders were pressed into service which took 25 minutes to douse the fire. The residents also alleged that they heard a minor blast from the tower during the fire.

Umesh Gulyani, president of the Nayagaon market committee, said, “We have been pressing for the stationing of a fire tender here in Nayagaon but no action has been taken so far. Secondly, the streets are congested due to heavy traffic which hampers the movement of the fire tender. We demand that a sub-fire station must be established here.”

The incident occurred at a mobile tower situated atop a shop after the generator set of the tower caught fire. The flames engulfed the entire tower within seconds and the residents ran out of their houses and shops.
