The candidates awaiting appointment letters have lamented delay in release of the selection list.

“The authorities have not yet uploaded the selection lists of the master cadre candidates of music. They have already called us for scrutiny of documents. I am a Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET) qualified candidate,” said Parminder Singh, pursuing Ph.D. in the Department of Punjabi at Punjabi University.

Lekh Raj, a research scholar from the Department of Sports Science claims, “There is no PSTET exam for physical education but now it is one of the conditions in the notification. PSTET was never considered or conducted to recruit master cadre teachers of Physical Education.”

When contacted, director general school education-cum-special secretary, Varinder Sharma said, “Candidates for the subject of music who complete the requirements or terms as mentioned in the notification will be given appointment letters soon.”

Sharma said, “PSTET qualified candidates need not to worry about their recruitment. The results will be out soon with the due course of time.” About the issue of candidates of physical education who have done B.P.Ed. but have not qualified PSTET, he responded, “There are many B.P.Ed candidates who are PSTET qualified and have applied in the master cadre posts. If we make the candidates who have not qualified PSTET join in the master cadre posts of physical education, it will adversely affect the rights of candidates who have qualified PSTET.”

On the issue of PSTET exam for of B.P.Ed., Sharma said, “I won’t comment on it.” He added, “PSTET is a requirement in the advertisement. Only those candidates will be given appointment letters who have cleared PSTET.” Moreover, he said, “The advertisement was released on the basis of policy of the government. We can’t go beyond the terms of the notification. No relief retrospectively can be given to anyone in qualification.”
