Two men lost their lives and a woman was critically injured after a private bus crashed into two motorcycles on the Jammu–Pathankot stretch of National Highway-44 near Kauntarpur village in Pathankot district on Wednesday. The incident sparked protests by local residents, who staged a protest and later set the bus ablaze.

According to police, the bus, which was travelling from Jalandhar to Jammu, allegedly went out of control before colliding with the motorcycles. The impact was so severe that the bikes were dragged for a considerable distance.
The victims, identified as Ranjit Singh and Arun Kumar, both residents of Kauntarpur village, died on the spot. The injured woman was admitted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Officials said all passengers had safely alighted the bus shortly after the collision. Firefighters later reached the spot and extinguished the fire.
Police have arrested the bus driver and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident.
