Porsche accident in Chandigarh: 23-yr-old deceased’s kin hold candle march, demand driver’s arrest
The protest march started from Nayagaon and culminated at the Sector 3 police station, Chandigarh, on Wednesday evening
More than a fortnight after a 23-year-old was killed in an accident on the Sectors 4 and 9 dividing road by a rashly driven Porsche, the family of Ankit, the deceased, on Wednesday took out a candle march to protest against the police for failing to arrest the accused, 38-year-old Sandeep Babuta.

The protest march started from Nayagaon and culminated at the Sector 3 police station in the evening.
The deceased’s family, along with scores of supporters, carried placards with photographs of Ankit, which read “Justice for Ankit”. The boards also read “Why does money decide who will get justice?”.
One of the placards also read “Ankit was a hardworking boy with dreams….until a Porsche car ended his life”.
“It has been more than two weeks but the police have not arrested the accused. We want him behind bars,” said the deceased’s brother, Sachin Negi.
Last week, the police had added Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Babuta. According to police reports, the accident took place on the road dividing Sectors 4 and 9 on the night of March 10. The car first struck a scooter, causing the driver to lose control. It then collided with another scooter. The car finally crashed into a pole, coming to a halt.
Ankit, who was riding the first scooter, was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. The two women on the second scooter sustained leg injuries.
While initially the police had booked the accused in a case of causing death due to negligence, further investigations revealed that the accident occurred when Babuta was attempting to overtake at high speed on a single-lane road, leading to the collision. The Porsche was moving at a high speed towards Raj Bhawan. Additionally, the account of an eyewitness recorded by the police further confirmed the driver’s negligence, strengthening the case against him.
