Rain disrupts normal life in Himachal; 162 roads blocked
At least 48 roads remained blocked in Kullu district, while 19 roads were blocked in Chamba and 16 in Sirmaur district. In Shimla district, 14 roads remained blocked
Incessant showers continued to disrupt normal life in Himachal Pradesh, with 162 roads blocked across the state on Friday.
In Mandi district, 56 roads remained blocked. The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway was closed for traffic on Friday morning between Dwada and Thalot in Mandi district due to shooting stones triggered by heavy rainfall. The continuous rain made travel along the stretch risky, resulting in long traffic jams on both sides. Traffic movement was restored a few hours later.
Meanwhile, a mudslide and debris disrupted traffic on the Mandi-Pathankot National Highway near Urla in the Padhar area of Mandi district for nearly two hours. The debris completely blocked the highway before being cleared and traffic was restored.
At least 48 roads remained blocked in Kullu district, while 19 roads were blocked in Chamba and 16 in Sirmaur district. In Shimla district, 14 roads remained blocked.
According to authorities, as many as 105 electricity distribution transformers (DTRs) were affected, while 73 water supply schemes also remained disrupted in the state.
IMD sounds orange alert on August 10, 11
Rainfall is expected to intensify in parts of Himachal Pradesh in the coming days with heavy to very heavy rain likely in parts of the state on August 10 and 11. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shimla, has sounded an orange alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts on August 10 and 11.
The weather office has sounded an orange alert in Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Sirmaur districts for August 10, followed by a similar alert on August 11 in Chamba, Kullu, Mandi and Sirmaur districts. Besides, a yellow alert of heavy rainfall has been sounded in various districts from August 8 to 11. For August 8, a yellow alert has been sounded in Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur districts, followed by Una, Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur districts on August 9.
During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain at most places and heavy rain at isolated places was observed in the state. The highest rainfall of 8cm was recorded in Dharamshala, followed by Jogindarnagar (8cm), Mandi (6cm), Kandaghat (6cm), Shimla (5cm), Manali (5cm), Naina Davi (5cm), Chuari (4cm), Murari Devi (4cm), Kufri (4cm), Nalagarh (3cm), Kothi (3cm), Nahan (3cm), Sundarnagar (2cm), Rohru (2cm), Gohar (2cm), Pandoh (2cm), Rampur Bushar (2cm), Paonta (1cm), Solan (1cm), Nichar (1cm) and Raipur Maidan (1cm).
Kinner Kailash Yatra temporarily suspended
Owing to inclement weather, the Kinner Kailash Yatra has been suspended temporarily. Pilgrims who reached the Tangling base camp to start the journey were not allowed to proceed on Friday morning. Pilgrims at the second base camp at Ganesh Bagh were also halted there. About 350 pilgrims are currently on the yatra. Decisions about the yatra will depend on the weather.
