The general officer commanding-in-chief of Udhampur-based Northern Command was addressing a mega ‘Veterans Sampark’ rally which was attended by over 800 veterans and ‘veer naris’ at a unit of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles at Jammu’s Digiana.

Indian and Chinese troops have been locked in a standoff in multiple areas along the LAC in eastern Ladakh since May 2020.

On situation along the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan, where the mutually brokered and renewed truce deal of February 25, 2021, stands intact, the Lt Gen Dwivedi said, “Ceasefire continues on the LoC. There have been some infiltration attempts which were successfully foiled by our units. The situation in the hinterland is largely under control. Our counter-insurgency and counter-terrorist grid is working with civilian administration and efforts are on to stop such incidents completely.”

Referring to the Agnipath scheme, he said under the new policy there will be a written test first and only those who pass the exam will be called for physical and medical tests.

Talking about the bravery of the JAK Rifles, Lt Gen Dwivedi said the regiment was raised in Jammu in 1820 and has given a wonderful example of its valour and sacrifice.

The Tuesday’s rally was organised to address problems faced by ex-servicemen, veer naris and any anomalies in disbursement of pension and other related grievances besides creating awareness about various welfare schemes being run by the Indian Army, central and state governments. The rally was organised in close coordination with representatives of Records JAK Rifles, Zila Sainik Welfare Office of Jammu.

Lt Gen Dwivedi recalled invaluable services rendered by the ex-servicemen and assured them that they would always remain an inseparable part of the armed forces fraternity and their welfare would always be accorded importance and priority.
