Waris Punjab De meets governor over ‘Satluj’ removal, Amritpal’s Parliament attendance
Waris Punjab De also sought permission for Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh to attend Parliament’s monsoon session and discharge his constitutional responsibilities.
Senior leaders of Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria, urging immediate intervention to restore the recently removed film “Satluj” on Zee5 OTT platform.
They also sought permission for Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh to attend Parliament’s monsoon session and discharge his constitutional responsibilities.
The delegation, comprising party patron Tarsem Singh Khalsa, Dakha MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali and Faridkot MP Sarbjit Singh Khalsa, argued that as an elected representative, Amritpal should be allowed to raise issues concerning Punjab, including water disputes, agriculture, unemployment and drug abuse.
Objecting to the removal of ”Satluj”, they claimed that the film portrayed the events of Punjab’s militancy era and highlighted the struggle of slain human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who documented cases of alleged illegal cremations and disappearances during the insurgency period.
Akal Takht to hold prayers on Sutlej banks on July 14
The Akal Takht will hold ‘ardas’ (prayers) on July 14 for the peace of Sikh youths whose cases were brought to light by human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, and seek justice for the affected families. Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj announced that a special religious gathering will be held on the banks of Sutlej river at Harike Pattan
He said to date, no collective ardas had been held for “the innocent youths, women, elderly people and children who fell victim to government and police excesses in Punjab”.
The jathedar extended an open invitation to “all victim families, mothers, sisters, brothers, activists, lawyers and individuals who have worked to defend human rights” to participate in the event.
