2 arrested in Delhi for duping senior citizens looking for medical help: Police

During the interrogation, the accused disclosed that they used a search engine company directory to get details of potential clients looking for medical assistance

Two Uttar Pradesh-based persons were arrested by a team of Delhi Police’s crime branch for stealing valuable items from families of senior citizens in the national Capital, under the garb of providing medial attendant services at their residences, police said.

Ravindra Singh Yadav, special commissioner of police, crime said that a resident of West Patel Nagar alleged that on October 9, they hired a medical attendant for their 85-year-old father-in-law.

When they found that the jewellery and money had been stolen from their home, they filed a complaint.

The accused had switched his phone off and the SIM was issued on a fake identity, said the police.

He added, “It is suspected that they are likely to have duped several others too. Investigation is in progress in this regard.”

During the interrogation, the accused disclosed that they used a search engine company directory to get details of potential clients looking for medical assistance. They disclosed that they wore masks to conceal their identity, maintaining that it is for the safety of the patients.

“Since this gang had the potential to cause serious harm to senior citizens, a dedicated team was deployed to trace them. CCTV footage for the date and time of the incident were collected and analysed”, the police states in a press release.

“With the help of CCTV footage, photographs of the accused, technical analysis and information collected by the team, the two were identified. A raid was conducted at the residence of the accused, after which the two were apprehended, “ said the police.

The accused Rinku Kumar, and Kallu, a resident of Greater Noida, had studied till Class 8 and was working as a labourer.

He began working with his cousin brother, Hemant, who was earlier arrested for stealing goods posing as a medical attendant.

Pramod Kumar, 38, the other accused in the case is a resident of Bulandshahr. He had opened a dhaba in order to sustain himself prior to working with Rinku and Hemant, said police.
