As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DSU of UEL, both universities will cooperate in knowledge exchange, explore research and innovation opportunities in the fields of sports science, staff and student exchange. The two stakeholders will also work together to develop new courses and careers for sports.

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was present during the signing of the MoU on Tuesday, said that the agreement will be historic both for athletes in Delhi and the remaining parts of the country. “I believe there has always been a nagging feeling in the hearts of all Indians – that despite being a nation of 130 crore people brimming with zeal and talent, when we represent India in major international sports tournaments, we are able to secure only a handful of medals. Keeping this in mind, we brainstormed ideas to improve the current situation of sports in the country with various experts and established the Delhi Sports University in order to give flight to our dreams of taking India to greater heights in the world of sports,” said Kejriwal. He added that DSU was an ambitious vision not just for Delhi, but for the country and would play a role in nurturing a culture of sports that would catapult underprivileged children to the global arena.

“Delhi Sports University doesn’t belong to Delhi alone…we’ve developed it for every single Indian out there. Delhi Government will ensure that talent from across the country makes it to Delhi Sports University,” said the chief minister.

He said that the government will focus on strengthening relations with reputed global educational institutes through collaboration in sports-related programmes via DSU.

In a statement, the Delhi Sports University said that the University will provide an equal and fair chance to aspirants who want to represent India on the international sports stage. “At this stage of inception, our partnership with UEL holds the importance of being the first international tie-up for mutual co-creation and innovation. As DSU establishes itself in the world of sports, we aim to rise up to the global standards in terms of sports performance, training and research and we are happy to receive UEL’s guidance in doing so,” read the statement.
