A major fire broke out at a scrapyard filled with industrial waste in Manesar’s Kankrola on Monday morning. Officials said that at least six fire tenders have been pressed into action, and firefighting work is going on to douse the flames.
Officials said that at least six fire tenders have been pressed into action.
Lalit Kumar, Manesar’s fire station officer, said that they received an alert about the fire 6.50am on Monday. “It is an open scrapyard in which industrial manufacturing waste was stored. Due to a large number of inflammable items like styrofoam and polythene, the fire spread quickly,” he said.
Fire department officials said that tenders from fire stations at Sector-37, 29, Manesar, Honda, and Maruti manufacturing plants were pressed into action to douse the flames. They said that heavy earthmovers were also roped in to spread the waste so that the fire could not spread further, and it could be contained.
Officials said that it was yet unclear whether short circuit, or spark from cooking by ragpickers, caused the fire.
