Gurugram: A retired drug controller of the Haryana government was injured when a speeding cab driver allegedly hit him and was dragged on the car’s hood in Sector 50, Gurugram police said on Friday.

Police said the victim sustained severe head injury and had been kept under observation for 48 hours by doctors. He also suffered from ligament ruptures on his right leg and back, police said, adding that the cab driver was arrested from the spot.
Police said that the incident took place at the Orchid Petal condominium at about 11.15am on Thursday when Narender Kumar Ahooja (62), along with his wife Anju, were walking along the condominium driveway to reach their apartment in Tower 12.
Investigators said a cab entered the premises to pick up a resident. As per police, its driver was in an inebriated state and failed to keep the car in the middle of the driveway and hit Ahooja from behind.
Investigators said that Ahooja was flung in the air and fell on the hood of the car, but the suspect kept driving. They said his wife along with other residents and security guards rushed to his rescue and overpowered the driver after dragging him out the car.
Police said the driver was intoxicated and was not able to speak properly.
Ahooja was rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
On his complaint, an FIR against the driver, identified as Shaktimaan Singh (40), was registered under Section 279 (rash driving or riding on public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Sector 50 police station on Thursday night, said police.
Ahooja said doctors suggested that he should remain admitted in the hospital due to his head injury. “However, I returned home and will remain under observation till Saturday. I am settled in Panchkula. I was in the city to finalise a marriage in my family,” he said.
Subhash Boken, public relations officer of Gurugram police, said the driver was granted bail. “Further investigation is underway in the case,” he added.
