Rajasthan: Chittorgarh BJP leader shot at in broad daylight, critical

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was shot in broad daylight in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh on Tuesday morning, police said.

The incident occurred around 11am in the Kotwali police station area when Ramesh Inani (65) was travelling by scooter. According to the police, a bike-borne assailant wearing a helmet followed Inani, overtook him, and fired two shots before fleeing the scene. One bullet struck Inani in the back, while the other hit his leg.

CCTV footage from the area shows Inani collapsing on the road moments after being shot. He was immediately rushed to the Chittorgarh district hospital and later referred to Udaipur in critical condition.

Upon receiving information about the attack, local MLA Chandrabhana Singh Akya and senior officials reached the spot.

Superintendent of Police Manish Tripathi said that Inani, who also runs a courier business, was attacked while on his way to work. “The motive behind the attack and the identity of the shooter are being investigated,” he said.

Police have collected CCTV footage from the vicinity and launched a manhunt to trace and arrest the assailant.
