The extortion demand was made in the name of jailed Punjab gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, whose named had surfaced in the murder of Punjabi singer Siddhu Moose Wala in 2022.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Lucknow (west), S Chinappa said, “The two accused were identified as Vivek Yadav, 21, and Amit Yadav, 19, both friends from Sultanpur. They had been following news about Bishnoi on TV channels and online media for past few months and believed that that demanding extortion in the name of Punjab gangsters like Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar could help them earn some quick money.”
The DCP said the two accused arranged the contact number of Khun Khun ji Jewellers through Internet and made the call demanding ₹30 lakh after posing as aides of Punjab gangsters. The DCP said the accused used WhatsApp call believing that they won’t be traced.
The complainant Utkarsh Agarwal (of Khun Khun Ji Jewellers) had registered an FIR with Chowk police station on Tuesday. He had informed the police that the callers had threatened them with dire consequences if the demand wasn’t met.”
The ADCP said that Utkarsh mentioned in the FIR that he received a WhatsApp call at around 11.35 am when he was sitting at his shop on Tuesday.
