Crime against women will not be tolerated, says Yogi

Tyagi was booked under IPC Section 354 (assault or use of criminal force on any woman) over a spat with the co-resident of the housing society.

The UP government on Monday used a bulldozer to raze illegal construction outside the ground floor apartment of absconding Tyagi. So far, six police officials had been suspended for alleged laxity in connection with the case, even as six aides of Tyagi who had barged into the Grand Omaxe society in Sector 93B on Sunday evening were arrested and sent to jail.

As the row escalated, the UP police intensified searches for Tyagi, who, according to senior officials in Noida, was set to be booked under the stringent Gangsters Act.

A state government spokesperson said the CM directed the home department for a detailed investigation into the case as well as stern action against the accused who is on the run. “Action should also be taken against the guilty policemen and officers. Crime against women will not be tolerated,” said the CM.

The inspector-in-charge of Noida sector, one sub-inspector and four constables were suspended in the case and investigation against others was underway, the spokesperson said.

The chief minister had issued instructions in the past, directing officers to take strict action in crimes related to women. The state government also launched Mission Shakti campaign to create awareness among women about the campaigns launched by the government for their safety and empowerment, he added.

As soon as the video of the Noida incident went viral on social media the police swung into action. A case was registered against the accused and teams were constituted to arrest him, the spokesperson said.

ADG (law and order) Prashant Kumar said special teams had been formed to arrest the main accused and he will be nabbed soon. The Noida Police also announced a reward on his arrest, he said.
