Eastern Uttar Pradesh’s growth driven by youth population, says Yogi

Eastern Uttar Pradesh youth never lacked talent, the earlier system failed to give them adequate opportunities, says CM Yogi Adityanath in Gorakhpur

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said the youth of eastern Uttar Pradesh never lacked talent or hard work, but the earlier system failed to provide them with adequate opportunities and platforms to realise their potential.

Highlighting the region’s economic growth, Adityanath said eastern UP had emerged as a rapidly developing economic region, driven largely by its young population.

Addressing a programme titled “Changing Eastern Uttar Pradesh” at the Baba Gambhir Nath auditorium in Gorakhpur, Adityanath said the youth of the region deserved opportunities rather than labels.

“The youth of eastern Uttar Pradesh were never lacking in talent or hard work. The deficiency lay with the system, which could not utilise their talent, and with those who failed to provide them with a platform,” the chief minister said.

He said the region was now emerging as a major hub for healthcare, education, investment and employment and the perception of Purvanchal had changed significantly. He contrasted the region’s earlier image, which he described as being associated with “mafia and mosquitoes,” with its emerging identity as a centre for development and economic activity.

He claimed that the region’s per capita income had more than tripled over the past nine years, while the state’s economy had grown threefold during the same period.

He expressed confidence that Uttar Pradesh would move towards becoming a USD 1 trillion economy within the next three years.

According to the chief minister, the transformation became visible after the government expanded opportunities in education, skill development, employment and entrepreneurship.

The chief minister said investments made in Gorakhpur alone over the past nine years had generated employment opportunities for around 50,000 young people. He added that nearly 56-60% of Uttar Pradesh’s population is young, making the state home to one of the country’s largest youth populations.

Adityanath said the government was working at multiple levels to provide young people with quality education, competitive-examination coaching, modern technical skills, employment and opportunities for self-employment.

He said the PM Internship Scheme, CM Internship Scheme and Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Yojana had contributed to accelerating economic growth and creating new opportunities for the youth.

The chief minister said eastern Uttar Pradesh had witnessed major changes over the past nine years, including the establishment of five new universities, further strengthening the region’s educational infrastructure.
