Drive to provide clean tap water to Uttar Pradesh’s rural areas expedited
Mahoba, Baghpat, Jhansi and Lalitpur have been included in the state’s top list of districts providing maximum tap connections to rural households
The Uttar Pradesh government has expedited the campaign launched under the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide clean drinking water to the families settled in rural areas of the state.
Mahoba, Baghpat, Jhansi and Lalitpur were included in the state’s top list of districts providing maximum tap connections to the rural households on Friday. A major achievement has been made by providing tap water to more than 75% rural families in these four districts, according to a state government spokesperson.
Mahoba district located in Bundelkhand region tops the list of tap connections with supplying water to 85.25% households. Against the target of 1,33,529 rural households in Mahoba, 1,13,829 households have been provided tap water supply, he added.
Baghpat district has secured the second position by providing 75.71% tap connections. Jhansi stands third by providing 75.62% tap connections and Lalitpur district has secured the fourth place by providing 75.33% percent tap connections, the spokesperson said.
Other districts of the state are also setting records by working at a fast pace to provide tap connections to the rural households. Mirzapur, Chitrakoot and Banda have been included in this list, he said. In these three districts, the work of providing more than 70% tap connections has been completed. In Mirzapur 73.41%, Chitrakoot 72.65% and in Banda 70.76% households have been provided tap connections, he added.
In 10 districts, clean drinking water from tap has been ensured to 60% rural households. Eight districts have achieved 50% target of tap connections to the rural households, the spokesperson said.
