Police on Thursday arrested a man and seized 146 kilos of crackers from his home in west Delhi’s Bindapur.

Anto Alphonse, deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka), identified the arrested man as Deepak who lives in Bindapur and works as a driver and hawker.
Alphonse said that Deepak was arrested on Thursday after police received a tip-off about him hiding firecrackers at his house in Milap Nagar, a neighbourhood in Bindapur.
“We raided his home and found 146 kilos of firecrackers packed in eight bags. We seized the firecrackers and booked him under the Indian Penal Code and Explosives Act,” said the DCP.
The officer said that the case was registered as the firecrackers were not “green”, making their possession illegal as per court orders. “For a long time, he had hidden the firecrackers in Haryana. Since Diwali is approaching, he recently moved the stock to his home in Delhi,” said the officer.
On September 21, the police had booked a man in Chanakyapuri after he and his relatives were allegedly found to be bursting firecrackers to celebrate the birth of his daughter. Since the man’s house is located near the prime minister’s residence, security officials had dialled the police on hearing sounds of the cracker burst.
