Besides processions by various Hindu organisations, one lakh booth-level party workers have been roped in to hoist gudhis at their houses.
Ahead of the local body polls, which are expected to be held this year, the party has been celebrating all Hindu festivals on a grand scale. “The Padwa processions are organised by various organisations, some of them are associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The BJP city unit has announced to celebrate the first day of the Marathi new year to boost its booth-level workers. Mumbai has about 9,800 polling booths with each having 11 party workers as part of the party’s voter outreach programme. These workers have been provided gudhis to raise at their respective homes, thus hoisting 107,800 gudhis on Wednesday,” a BJP leader said.
City BJP chief Ashish Shelar said, “BJP leaders and workers across the city are geared up for the processions. The processions will be held in Lal Baug, Parel, Vile Parle, Borivali and other parts of the city and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). It is also the celebration to mark the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, which is on the verge of completion.”
The city unit of the party believes that Hindutva card played in the backdrop of the Hindu festivals will help them in polarising Hindu and Marathi voters.
