172 LPG cylinders seized in raid at Worli chawl

Officials said these cylinders were being illegally refilled and stored for sale on the black market. All the seized cylinders have been handed over to the Worli Police station

MUMBAI: The flying squad of the state food and civil supplies department raided a chawl in Worli and seized 172 LPG cylinders stored there for sale on the black market. The raid, conducted on Friday, revealed cylinders of varying volume for domestic and commercial use.

During the raid at Suraj Vallabhdas Chawl, on Ganpatrao Kadam Marg near Worli Naka, six filled and 58 empty 5-kg cylinders belonging to Hindustan Petroleum were recovered. Additionally, 64 filled 4-kg cylinders and 19 filled 12-kg cylinders of Super Gas company were seized. Apart from these, 25 empty cylinders of various sizes—12 kg, 4 kg, and 2 kg—were also found.

Officials said these cylinders were being illegally refilled and stored for sale on the black market. All the seized cylinders have been handed over to the Worli Police station.

Officials said that storing cylinders in this manner in residential areas posed a huge risk to the residents.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of the controller of rationing, Mumbai, Chandrakant Dange.
