Mumbai: Two auto-rickshaw drivers were arrested from Bihar for allegedly fleeing with a bag which contained gold ornaments worth 30 lakh. The police have also recovered gold worth ₹15 lakh and ₹9 lakh cash from the duo.

The accused – identified as Nandkishor Yadav and Shravan Saha – are natives of Jamui district, Bihar.
The complainant, Premji Varia, 40, owns a garments shop in Ghatkopar. As per the police, he and his brother went to Bangkok and bought two gold bangles weighing 670 grams worth ₹30 lakh. They returned on September 23, 2022, and hired an auto from the international airport for Ghatkopar.
After they reached Ghatkopar Railway station, Varia and his brother got down, however, before Varia could remove his backpack from the auto, the driver, Yadav, fled with the bag containing the gold ornaments, said an assistant police inspector Dnyaneshwar Kharmate of the Ghatkopar police station.
Varia then approached the Ghatkopar police and lodged a complaint. Police started an investigation and scrutinised at least 30 CCTV cameras around Ghatkopar station and registered an FIR on December 20, 2022, said a police officer, adding, “Based on the registration number of the auto, we questioned the auto owner and got details of Yadav.”
“Yadav and his associate Saha, both were staying in Santacruz and drove an auto rickshaw,” added the officer. “We found Yadav had switched off his phone and fled to his native place. Our team then visited Bihar and arrested them with the help of local police. Yadav had by then sold one bangle with the help of Saha to a jeweller. We got the other bangle and ₹9 lakh in cash from their possession.”
Both were brought to Mumbai on Sunday night and were arrested.
