4 molest, threaten minor girl as her father refuses to smuggle gold

Mumbai: Four persons, including a woman, have been booked on Thursday for allegedly molesting, extorting, defaming and issuing death threats to a 17-year-old girl after her father failed to bring their bag from Dubai to Mumbai.

Fearing that the bag contained illegal gold, the girl’s father had abandoned it at the Mumbai airport and since then, the four accused were allegedly harassing the minor girl.

According to the complaint, while the father was coming to Mumbai at the Dubai airport some people gave him a bag and asked him to take it to Mumbai. Since they gave reference to a known person, he took the bag.

However, later, fearing that the bag may contain illegal gold, he abandoned it at the Mumbai airport.

Between November 19 to 21, four people; Umer, Javed, Sayyed Papa alias Kafiya and Samina, visited her home and threatened her. Umer and Samina also stopped the girl in the streets and touched her inappropriately and pulled her hair. They threatened to kidnap and murder her if her father failed to show up before them with the gold, states the FIR.

The fourth accused Kafiya had allegedly created a WhatsApp message using her father’s photo with the message “Sona Lekar Farar” (absconding with gold) and circulated the image.

The four accused have been booked under sections 354 (molestation), 354D (stalking), 385 (extortion by putting any person in fear, or attempts to put any person in fear), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation), 500 (defamation) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code and 8 and 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

“We are in process of verifying her claims and no arrest has been made yet. The investigation is on,” said Yogendra Pache, senior inspector of Agripada police station.
