ASI arrested for molesting woman in Tardeo

The accused and victim were acquaintances and were talking in the park when the accused allegedly molested the woman, the police said

Mumbai: A 36-year-old assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) was arrested on Monday for allegedly molesting a woman inside a park in Tardeo. The accused and victim were acquaintances and were talking in the park when the accused allegedly molested the woman, the police said.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 5.30 pm on Monday when the accused and the woman were sitting and talking in the park. Some passersby, who witnessed the incident, said that they heard the woman screaming and rushed to see what had happened. When they inquired, the woman told them that the policeman had touched her inappropriately. They then caught hold of him and started to beat him up, when a crowd started gathering.

“As soon as a ruckus was created, police personnel from the police chowki, which is adjacent to the park, rushed to the park and took the ASI into custody,” said Savarkar Salgaonkar, senior police inspector of Tardeo police station.

Subsequently, a case was registered against him under Section 74 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
