Bomb hoax leads police to sex workers in Dahisar

Mumbai: The police were forced to up the security in the city and were sent for a bootless errand after an unidentified man called the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) police control room and claimed that two terrorists were in Mumbai and were planning to carry out an explosion. The unknown caller even provided their mobile numbers.

A police team traced the mobile numbers to Dahisar and zeroed in on the suspect, only to discover that the mobile holders were commercial sex workers.

According to the police, on Wednesday around 8.30pm, the MBVV control room got a call from a man who identified himself as Yadav from Gujarat. “The caller later shared two mobile numbers with the control room and told the policemen on duty that those were numbers of terrorists who had entered the city with explosives and planned to trigger a blast,” a police officer said.

The police immediately started tracing the numbers and the locations were found to be in Dahisar, the officer said, adding, “The MBVV police immediately informed their counterparts in Mumbai who traced the address of the numbers and found the two numbers belonged to two women, both commercial sex workers.”

“Our teams as a precautionary measure questioned the women. They told us that probably some unsatisfied customer might have made the call to trouble them,” said the police officer. “We are now tracing the caller.”

50-year-old arrested for hoax bomb threat

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old man was arrested for allegedly calling the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) control room and informing them that a man was going to plant a bomb in Mumbai.

On tracing the call, the police reached gate number 7 in Malwani’s Azmi Nagar and arrested Nasimul Hassan Rafi Shaikh. On questioning Shaikh, he confessed that he wanted to take revenge on his neighbour over a fight between them due to which he made the threat call. “We are now finding out whether he had made such calls earlier as well,” an officer from Malwani police station said.
