CIDCO, police seize 10 dumpers for illegal debris dumping in Ulwe

CIDCO and NRI Sagari police have detained 10 dumpers and their drivers for dumping debris in Ulwe, following complaints from residents about health concerns.

ULWE: In a first of its kind joint operation by City and Industrial Development Cooperation (CIDCO) and NRI Sagari police, a total of 10 dumpers were nabbed and 10 drivers of these vehicles were detained by the police for attempting to dump debris within Ulwe.

The drive was undertaken in the early hours of March 31 following repeated complaints from citizens about unmonitored debris dumping within the node and the health issues being faced by the residents.

“We were informed about the movement of 10 debris-laden dumpers attempting to dump the material in the area. Since already orders exist forbidding any kind of debris dumping in the city, we took action the help of the vigilance squad,” said an engineer with CIDCO involved in the operation.

The dumpers were targetting an open plot belonging to CIDCO adjacent to Sai temple in Sector 23, Wahal. CIDCO had received multiple complaints from local residents as well as activists about the unmonitored dumping of debris leading to both environmental and health concerns. With vast open areas, these sectors are often exploited by debris dumping mafia.

“We received specific information about illegal dumping of debris in these areas. A team of police officials along with the anti-debris squad reached the spot and after ascertaining the nature of activity as well as the material being dumped, the necessary action was taken. This is the first-of-its-kind action taken in coordination with CIDCO. The confiscated vehicles will now be produced before the court,” said deputy police commissioner, zone 1, Vivek Pansare while addressing a press conference.
