CR general manager Vijay Kumar passes away
Preliminary medical opinion suggests he suffered a cardiac arrest in his sleep, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem examination, officials said
Mumbai: Central Railway (CR) general manager Vijay Kumar passed away early on Tuesday, barely a month after taking charge of the zone. Preliminary medical opinion suggests he suffered a cardiac arrest in his sleep, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem examination, officials said.

Kumar had assumed office as CR’s general manager on October 1. Before this, he headed the Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) and had served in key positions across North Western Railway, Northern Railway, the Railway Board, and the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) during a career spanning more than 35 years.
Railway officials described him as a results-oriented and visionary administrator who focused on innovation, efficiency, and passenger convenience. He envisioned Central Railway as a leader in safety, sustainability, and capacity enhancement, aligning with Indian Railways’ modernisation and Make in India goals for achieving Vikasit Bharat by 2047.
“He was a sensitive person who was concerned about the welfare of the employees. Central Railway mourns the loss of a noble soul, an efficient administrator, and an inspiring leader whose contributions to Indian Railways will always be remembered amongst us,” said a CR official.
