MUMBAI: A decomposed body of an unidentified man was found in a drain in Nalasopara East on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, heavy rainfall around 5am resulted in water-logging in the area. After several complaints from Vakanpada residents, the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation workers went to clean the drains.
“Around 8am, the workers began cleaning the drains. In one of the drains, they noticed that something was blocking the flow of water,” an officer from Pelhar police station said.
After close inspection, the workers found a decomposed body. They immediately alerted their superiors, who in turn informed the police about the body.
“It took the civic workers around four hours to remove the body,” a police officer said. The body was sent to a government hospital for post-mortem.
The police are now trying to ascertain the identity of the man and the cause of his death. “We are checking all missing complaints in the area as well as Mumbai. We have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and are investigating further,” the officer added.
“The man either fell into the drain or was killed and the body was dumped in the drain to dispose of it,” the officer added.
