Mumbai: A newborn baby boy was found abandoned in the washroom of ward number 40 at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar East, following which the Tilak Nagar police registered a case against unidentified parents.

The infant was discovered by Shreeram Patel, a resident of Saki Naka, who had come to the hospital to visit his cousin admitted there. According to officials, Patel entered the washroom when he heard a baby crying and found the newborn abandoned inside. He immediately informed hospital staff, and a nurse took custody of the child.

Based on a complaint filed by police constable Jeetendra Patil, who is posted at Rajawadi Hospital, the Tilak Nagar police registered a case under Section 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which criminalises the abandonment or exposure of a child below the age of 12 by parents or legal guardians.
