Maharashtra reports 535 new cases of Covid-19 with 10 deaths, Mumbai records no fresh casualty

Meanwhile, Mumbai continued to record zero Covid-19 deaths for the ninth consecutive day on Saturday as downward trend in daily Covid cases continued in the city

Mumbai: On Saturday, Maharashtra recorded 535 new cases of Covid-19 with 10 deaths. The positivity rate is now 0.70% as 535 cases were detected positive of the total 76,375 tests. Dr Wiqar Shaikh, professor of medicine, Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Hospital cautioned against repeating the previous mistakes.

“We saw how the cases increased after we threw caution into the wind at the end of the first and second wave. Thus, citizens need to mask themselves as well as follow all Covid-19 behaviour as there is always a risk of Covid-19 virus undergoing mutation and assuming new virulent form,” said Dr Shaikh.

The total number of Covid-19 patients right from the outbreak last year has now reached 78,68,451. There were 454 citizens infected with the Omicron variant of Covid-19 virus on Friday. All the 454 patients are from Nagpur. Till now, a total number of 5665 patients have been infected with the omicron variant of which 4733 have been discharged following negative RT-PCR test.

Currently the state has 4038 active patients of which Pune tops with 1404 followed by Mumbai and Ahmedngar with 576 and 426 patients respectively.

The death toll has now reached 1,43,737 with Pune leading with 20,156 deaths followed by Mumbai with 16,691 and Thane with 11,867.

Meanwhile, Mumbai continued to record zero Covid-19 deaths for the ninth consecutive day on Saturday as downward trend in daily Covid cases continued in the city.

The city reported 65 fresh Covid-19 cases in Mumbai taking the total case tally to 10,55,954. The overall Covid-19 toll tally stood at 16,691 on Saturday. The city hasn’t reported a single Covid-19 death so far in March.

With 17,952 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) of Mumbai stood at 0.36% on Saturday. At present, there are 576 active cases in Mumbai and the rate of hospitalisation is 1.7%.

Mumbai’s recovery rate stood at 98% on Saturday and 89 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours.
