Ticket checker assaulted: Special drive to inspect outstation trains

MUMBAI About four days after a ticket checker Rajesh Gupta was assaulted onboard Vidarbha Express between Dombivli and Kalyan railway stations on Thursday, railways have launched a special drive to inspect its outstation trains.

The drive, consisting of railway commercial staff along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, will be checking outstation trains for unruly passengers. The inspection of the trains will also be undertaken while the ticket checkers are checking the passengers’ tickets.
As many as 10 teams are formed in order to check outstation trains on zonal and headquarters levels in Maharashtra.
“We will be checking outstation trains along with railway stations. We have taken cognisance of the issue and will be investigating the matter,” said Shivaji Sutar, chief public relations officer, Central Railway.
Ticket checker Rajesh Gupta was assaulted onboard the Vidarbha express on Thursday and a case has been registered in Dombivli Government Railway Police (GRP). Gupta was saved by other passengers travelling in the B4 coach of the Vidarbha express.
“I asked a passenger for a ticket while checking the B4 coach. The passenger failed to produce and hence I asked him to pay a penalty which he refused to pay and used unparliamentary language and manhandled me. GRP lodged a zero FIR and transferred the case to Dombivli which was the place of incidence,” a statement from the ticket checker read.
