Noida: In an alleged gang rape case reported in Noida reported on Sunday, the complainant’s friend has been detained for questioning.

A 22-year-old had reported that she was raped by two unknown men in a park on Thursday when she was sitting alone in phase 2 police station area. Police have registered a complaint on sections 376 D (gang rape) and 392 (robbery) of Indian Penal Code. Officials said that interrogation by the women’s cell revealed that several facts mentioned by the complainant are either not adding up or have been withheld, such as the fact that she was not sitting alone.

“The girl’s medical report shows no injury. Additionally, she said that she was alone, but we now have information that she was sitting with her boyfriend, Pawan, in the park, when the men approached. They had a heated argument, after which Pawan ran away. We are interrogating further about the true facts of the case,” said Harish Chandar, deputy commissioner of police (central).

He added that the woman mentioned that the two men snatched her phone and then violated her. However, this also needs to be investigated further.

“We need to know that if there was a friend with her, why he ran away or why did he not contact the police immediately? We are talking to possible witnesses and getting more information,” added Chandar.

While the incident took place on July 21, the formal complaint was registered on July 24. The complainant has mentioned that she did not know the two men, but that also needs to be verified, officials said.
