According to fire department officials, they were alerted about the fire around 1.30pm, and two fire tenders rushed to the spot.
“The occupants of the house were not present, and thick smoke billowed from the flat. We deployed two fire tenders, and the building’s fire-fighting system was also used. The fire was completely controlled in about one hour. It is suspected that a short-circuit or an oil lamp (diya) in the home temple might have triggered the fire. Further investigation is underway,” chief fire officer Rahul Pal told HT.
Officials said no one was killed or injured during the incident. “However, household items were damaged. The fire did not spread to adjacent flats. One fire tender was sent from Kotwali, and one tender on duty near the court was also rushed to the spot,” the CFO added.
