The Bareilly district administration has issued a weapons licence to Jagdish Patani, father of Bollywood actress Disha Patani, days after a firing incident outside the family’s residence triggered security concerns. The development comes after Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath personally assured the family of protection.

Jagdish Patani, a retired deputy superintendent of police (DSP), applied for the licence soon after the attack on his Civil Lines home. Bareilly district magistrate Avnish Singh confirmed that the request was approved following the completion of official verification. “A revolver/pistol licence has been granted after all formalities were fulfilled,” he said.

On September 12, 2025, two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle fired nearly ten rounds outside the Patani residence. A case was lodged at Kotwali police station. Days later, on September 17, the two suspects- identified as Ravindra and Arun- were killed in an encounter in Ghaziabad. The operation involved the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), Haryana STF, and the Delhi Police unit.

Bareilly senior superintendent of police Anurag Arya stated that security arrangements at Jagdish Patani’s residence would continue.
