Delhi’s air quality was in the satisfactory category on Wednesday morning as partly overcast weather was expected with a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and the maximum 37 degrees Celsius.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the hourly air quality index (AQI) was 98 at 7am. On Sunday, the average 24-hour AQI was 112 in the moderate category with PM2.5 and PM 10 being the significant pollutants.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.

On Tuesday, the monitoring agency System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research said moderate dispersion due to wind and moderate temperature over the next three days is likely to keep air quality in satisfactory to moderate category.

“Dust (with particle size more than 2.5 micrometre) contributes around 52% to PM10 levels . For the next 3 days ...peak wind speed is likely to be around 14-24 km/h causing moderate dispersion... Moderate temperature (33-36 degree C) and mixing layer height will maintain moderate ventilation.”

The minimum temperature on Tuesday was 27.6 degree Celsius, one degree above normal, and the maximum 36.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal. The humidity levels varied between 58% and 89%.
