Violence in Atala: Prayagraj police watching those sheltering accused
32 persons whose names are in the FIR are still to be arrested and the police is also trying to identify those who are helping and providing shelter to the accused
The Prayagraj police is keeping an eye on those who are helping the accused in the June 10 violence which rocked Atala area evade arrest and are sheltering them. Many of the named accused of the violence and arson are still on the run.

The Khuldabad police has registered a case against 70 named and 5,000 unnamed accused in the aftermath of the violence at Atala.
SHO of Khuldabad police station Anurag Sharma said that 32 persons whose names are in the FIR are still to be arrested. They are residents of different areas and police teams were carrying out raids to trace them. Help from surveillance and social media is being taken to trace them. The police is also trying to identify those who are helping and providing shelter to the accused and action will also be taken against them, he added.
So far, 105 persons have been arrested by Khuldabad and Kareli police in connection with the violence in Atala and adjoining areas. Besides the named accused, many were arrested from the spot while others were identified through the video footage, photographs and other means.
The named accused who are evading arrest include corporator Fazal Khan, AIMIM district president Shah Alam, AIMIM leader Zeeshan Rehmani, AIKMS leader Ashish Mittal and activist Umar Khalid. Besides, some traders and locals of Atala are also accused of violence and are on the run.
Police sources said that many of the named accused may be living in other areas of Prayagraj while others may have left the district. The families of many of the named accused have claimed their innocence in the violence.
Corporator Fazal’s mother Zareena Khan has written a letter to chief minister Yogi Adityanath demanding an enquiry into the incident while claiming that her son was framed in the case as part of a conspiracy.
