A Covid-19 bulletin released by the state health department on Monday, however, put the number of active cases in the state at four, all from Gaya.

According to state health officials, it did not account for the samples which tested positive on Monday evening, as their test results came after the cut-off time for the compilation of the day’s Covid-19 bulletin.

“All three international tourists who tested positive during random sampling at the Gaya international airport are asymptomatic and have been advised home isolation at the monastery where they are residing,” civil surgeon and medical officer in charge of Gaya district Dr Ranjan Kumar Singh said.

“We will allow the patients to end their home isolation period if they test negative on the fifth day, or else we will wait seven days, as per the standard protocol,” said Dr Singh.

Four Thai tourists who tested positive in the district last Saturday, after a gap of almost 15 days, were also sent for home isolation at the monastery.

In December last year, nearly 25 foreigners tested positive for Covid-19 during a random testing drive at the Gaya airport before the religious congregation of the Dalai Lama. Most of them were reportedly from Thailand.

Earlier this month, two more foreigners, one each from Cambodia and Thailand, tested positive for Covid-19 during a random sample collection drive at the Gaya airport.
