Accused escapes from Kondhwa police station during interrogation

An accused arrested in a vehicle theft case on Friday escaped from the Kondhwa police station while being interrogated, police said. A case has now been registered against him at the same police station.

The accused has been identified as Danish Yakub Syed (24), a resident of Kashewadi in Bhawani Peth. Police constable Tanaaji Sarade has lodged a complaint in the matter.

According to police, Syed was arrested in a vehicle theft case and remanded to police custody by a court. On Friday (May 15) around 7:45 pm, while his statement was being recorded, he allegedly slipped out of the interrogation room and fled from custody.

Police Sub-Inspector Gawade is investigating the case.

Officials said Syed is a history-sheeter and is also facing a pending case of chain-snatching.
