Pharmacist served show-cause notice for alleged supply of expired medicines
According to the notice, patients who visited the health centre on June 16 were allegedly supplied medicines that had expired in March 2026
The Pune district health officer on June 17 issued a show-cause notice to a pharmacist after citizens alleged that medicines expired in March were being supplied to patients at the primary health centre (PHC) in Khed Shivapur.
The issue came to light after a video purportedly showing expired medicines being dispensed to patients surfaced on social media.
According to the notice, patients who visited the health centre on June 16 were allegedly supplied medicines that had expired in March 2026. The notice has sought an explanation from the employee within seven days.
According to officials, on June 16, OPD patients Sitabai Vavhal, 90, and Dilip Vavhal, 63, were reportedly given tablets that had expired in March 2026 at the Khed Shivapur primary health centre at around 10.30 am, said the officials.
Dr Ramchandra Hankare, Pune district health officer, said none of the patients consumed the expired medicines.
“A show-cause notice has been issued to the pharmacist,” he said.
