Pune Police recover 27 laptops from man who targeted college students

Laptops, one tablet, one mobile handset totally worth ₹10,80,000 were recovered from the possession of the accused, identified as Nilesh Prafullchand Karnawat (39) of Nandra village in Jalgaon district

The police have arrested a man for stealing laptops of students staying at college hostels and accommodations in the vicinity of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad city and Pune rural areas.

At least 27 laptops, one tablet, one mobile handset totally worth ₹10,80,000 were recovered from the possession of the accused, identified as Nilesh Prafullchand Karnawat (39) of Nandra village in Jalgaon district, said police authorities.

Vishwajeet Kaingade, senior inspector, Lonikand Police Station, said on Monday, “We arrested Karnawat from Raisoni College area following a tip-off on October 15. We got information about a man wearing a blue shirt and black trousers standing suspiciously near the main gate of the college. He later confessed to stealing laptops from college hostels when the door of the rooms remained open.”

According to the police, Karnawat stole laptops from Raisoni College, Sinhgad College, Symbiosis College and MIT College premises, and Warje-Malwadi, Dehu, Bibwewadi and Lonavla areas. He used to visit these places in the morning hours and target laptops left for charging in rooms.

Following the arrest, police claimed to have solved 18 cases.
