Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on Tuesday published a list of high tide dates for the monsoon. Besides, regional disaster management cell also published helpline numbers people can call on during an emergency.

The corporation has informed that there are 50 days in between June and September, during which waves can go as higher than four metres. The high tide information was given to TMC by the maritime board.

In 2017, eight people died in the deluge that followed a downpour during a high tide. The corporation has appealed the people to stay indoors in case a downpour coincides with one of the high tide dates.

TMC official requesting anonymity said, “The city will experience waves of more than 4.5 meters high on eight days, most of which fall in the month of July — which also has maximum number of high tide days. Downpour during this time might lead to flooding in the city. However, there won’t be a single day when the waves will cross the five-metre mark.”

July is also the month when waves will be at their highest. The tallest wave, 4.62-metre, will be experienced on July 14 followed by another, 4.60-metre on July 15.

Tackling emergency

At present, disaster management cell has 14 boats owned by TMC and 57 that belong to private owners. Of the boats owned by TMC, one each have been deployed at Hariyali lake, Jail lake, Rewale lake, Kolbad, Ambe Ghosale, Kausa and Khidkali. The rest are with the disaster management and fire brigade department.
