Though generators were working, a few healthcare facilities could not be run smoothly and patients waiting since morning had to return after taking a fresh date for their tests. Power supply was disrupted due to a technical snag in the sub-station, said officials.
“The fault was in 132kv Mehtab Bagh sub-station. During the day, 8,501 patients were registered in the OPD,” said Dr Sudhir Singh, spokesperson, KGMU.
“The problem was fixed and the supply was restored,” said Madhukar Verma, GM, LESA.
Nearly 30% of OPD patients are prescribed tests every day, and 10% among them need radiology tests.
Due to the outage in peak hours, many diagnostic machines stopped and the queues became longer. “The supply resumed around 2.15pm. Until that time, we had been running services on generators. No operations were postponed,” said Prof SN Shankhwar, CMS, KGMU.
The KGMU has about 60 generators in different departments, but a few facilities are not connected with them. Hence, patients at Lari Cardiology, CTVS, paediatrics department and dental wing faced problems.
