Ashwin was not in India's World Cup plans. His two ODIs in the last six years is the biggest proof of that but an injury to Axar Patel and the need to have an off-spin bowling all-rounder in the side for certain oppositions has paved his return. India still want Axar to be fit and ready, make no mistake but if he fails to regain fitness (chances of that are slim) then Ashwin will be ready. 

The bigger question, however, is should India pick Ashwin irrespective of Axar's fitness? In that case, they will have to drop Shardul Thakur, their own seam bowler who offers something with the bat lower down the order. Will India go that way? The chances are slim but not impossible.

India vs Australia Live Score: It is safe to state that Shreyas Iyer does not have a friendly relationship with his back. In the last 12 months or so, a back injury has troubled him more than anything else. It first came to light during the Bangladesh series last year. After missing a few games, Iyer was back for a Test match against Australia only to aggravate the injury further. He was ruled out from the entire IPL and the West Indies tour. When he finally made a comeback for the Asia Cup after undergoing surgery on his back, he hurt it again during a warm-up session minutes before a Super 4 match against Pakistan. It will be interesting to see how he goes about his things in this series as he is an important part of India's batting unit.
