India vs Bangladesh, Women’s World Cup 2022 Highlights: India defeat Bangladesh by 110 runs, boost semifinal hopes

India, who started well, suddenly find themselves in backfoot after losing wickets in a flurry. Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur are batting in the middle as India reach 80/3 after 19 overs. 

Wickets continue to fall as Ritu Moni picks her second in the same over. India captain Mithali Raj departs for a golden duck. She is caught by Fahima Khatun at cover. IND: 74/3 (15.4 overs) 

Nahida Akter strikes as Smriti Mandhana is dismissed on 30 off 50 balls. A slow delivery and Mandhana had all the time to play it anywhere her shot goes straight to Fargana Hoque at backward square leg. 

And moments after that, Ritu Moni brings an end to Shafali Verma show. She departs for 42 in the same number of balls. IND: 74/2 (15.3 overs)

After starting on a slow note, Shafali Verma now continues to deal in boundaries, racing to 41 off 37 deliveries. She has so far hit 6 fours and one maximum. 

After an expensive over, Nahida Akter makes a strong comeback. Gives just two runs in her previous over as IND reach 63/0 after 13 overs.

Ritu Moni comes in place of Jahanara Alam and starts off well, although she concedes a boundary off an outside edge by Shafali Verma. There was close caught-behind appeal as well against her, with Bangladesh taking their review. Fortunate for the youngster as TV replay shows that the bat had hit the pad and there was no connection with the ball. Meanwhile, Moni starts off with a five-run over as IND reach 61/0 after 12 overs.

Shafali Verma continues the fireworks as she hits an overpitched delivery by Jahanara Alam for a four, straight enough to beat the fielder at long-off. She then hits Alam for two more fours, the first towards the long-on region and then whacks it in gap between the fielders at point. Expensive over as 13 runs come off it. Meanwhile, India reach 52/0 after 10 overs.

Shafali Verma changes gears as she hits Nahida Akter for a six and a boundary. It will lift the confidence of the 18-year-old as she races to 16 off 18 balls. IND: 39/0 (9 overs)

After an expensive first over, which saw her conceding nine runs, Jahanara Alam has been really superb. She concedes just two runs in her over. Meanwhile, first bowling change for Bangladesh as Nahida Akter comes in place of Salma Khatun. 

Smriti Mandhana charges down the track and welcomes Salma Khatun with a boundary towards the long-off region. 5 runs come off the over as India reach 23/0 after 7 overs.   

The boundaries have dried up and it's another economical over by Jahanara Alam. She gives away just two runs as India's total reach 18/0 after 6 overs. Smriti is batting on 15, Shafali is playing on 3. 

As predicted there's turn in the pitch as Salma Khatun is getting it early in the innings. Promising sign for the spinners, who'll play a major role in the contest. Meanwhile, Khatun bowls a maiden over. IND: 16/0 (5 overs)

After an expensive first over, Jahanara Alam recovers well and concedes just 3 in her next. Meanwhile, the Indian batters rotate the strike without any difficulties. IND: 16/0 (4 overs)

Salma Khatun continues from the other end and she bowls an equally tight over just like her previous one. Two runs come off it. IND: 13/0

Superb timing by Smriti Mandhana as she places the ball right in between the gap through the cover region for a four. Jahanara Alam then tries to alter her length but same result. Back to back boundaries as India reach 11/0 after 2 overs.

A tight over by Salma Khatun as just two runs come off it. Jahanara Alam will lead the attack from the other end.  IND: 2/0 (1 over)

Shafali Verma walks out in the middle as she opens the innings with Smriti Mandhana. Bangladesh will start with spin, interesting move, as Salma Khatun leads their attack.  

The players and match official walk out in the middle for the pre-match rituals.

"Last night, the ball was turning. It seemed like an Indian pitch with the way the spinners were getting the ball to turn. Today, both India and Bangladesh have good spinners. I'm looking forward to an absorbing contest between the spinners and the batters out here."

Mithali Raj: “We'll have a bat. The same wicket was used for the last game. It's slow and there's turn for spinners. We would like to use the wicket first and put up a good score. It was a good game (against Australia). As a fielding unit, we couldn't back our bowlers when it was required. The wicket will probably assist the spinners and we'd like our fielding unit to stand up. We'd like the batters to bat sensibly. We have just one change. Poonam Yadav comes in place of Meghna Singh.” 

Nigar Sultana: “We'd have batted as well. But our bowling unit has done a wonderful job throughout the tournament. This is a lucky ground for us and we'd like to implement in this match. We want to restrict them to a good total. We have two changes. Murshida and Lata come in.”

The skies look clear, a good sign as it rained yesterday. We are ready with the toss. 

"The atmosphere remains positive. After a loss you do feel down but we are in good headspace ahead of the game. We will play to win, net run rate remains secondary."

"Bangladesh have reached here by performing. They are always improving. There are no easy games in this World Cup."

India failed to defend 278 against Australia in their previous encounter. However, one positive from the match was captain Mithali Raj getting back among runs. She scored 68 off 96 deliveries, which included 4 4s and a 6.
